May / June Adventure 2015

(All Parks we visit and contact details are on our Parks Information Page)
This trip is in progress and will be updated as soon as we can:
Most photos will uploaded to my facebook page for the moment.
So its time to go north - (5 days earlier than expected, giving me my first brownie point with the wife) we are leaving on an early Wednesday morning just to get out of the Brisbane traffic and be up at Bundaberg by midday. Here we are going to catch up with friends for a few days before heading further north. We are staying at Glenlodge Caravan Village just 5km out Bundaberg.

Bundaberg was going to be a return stop over but with the early departure and not having to be where we need to be till Monday and extending our holidays we decided to change our trip a little.

What can I say, if something is going to wrong it will. The day before going I went into the van to pack the last minute food & found that the van had lost all 240v power, the circuit breaker refusing to stay on. With less than 24hr’s before departure frantic calls to Jayco and whoever I could get, there was nothing anyone could do without giving them the van . My call to Jayco technician who was very helpful in trying to help fix the problem over the phone, with me pulling things apart without success. But again thanks Jayco for all your help. Solution was ........well its an Outback fully equiped we will survive….

Happy ending was half way to our first stop over I thought what the Jayco Tech had said and later at our first destination fixed our 240v problem. ( Later on I will explain as this could happen to anyone).

* Glenlodge is a Top Tourist Parks of Australia member.

So here we are first day and set up by 11am, on arriving at the park we where met by Glenlodge caravan parks owners two brothers. These guys are awesome and full of knowledge on what to see and do in Bundy it was like seeing Bundy without going out lol, All this info and a map that they gave us highlighting all these things has saved us a far bit of time. At the park we up graded our site to have a ensuite, (which gained me my 2nd brownie point with the wife). and with the Tourist Park member ship was well worth the discounted rate.
Once we had set up we sat back and relaxed for the rest of the day catching up with friends (Greg & Dawn) and meeting more. Two of the new people we have met are (Linda & Paul) and we will be going out to dinner tomorrow night with then... Well after a relaxing avo, a few beers and BBQ, time for bed to get ready for a discovery day tomorrow around Bundaberg.

Well its day 2 up and cooking breaky the meal that’s going to start the day. A big day planned to see Bundaberg so first stop the fish co-op to grab dinner for tomorrow night. On arriving at the co-op we where amazed to find the most selective range of seafood ever and it was all help yourself in selecting the pieces of fish you wanted. This place was called “Grunskes by the River”  Seafood market & takeaway.

Apart from being a co-op it was a the best takeout I have evey seen…… We ended getting Blue Salom and Scallops for tomorrow nights dinner Mmmmmm.

Putting these in our trusty Waco fridge we headed off. Next stop the Bundy factory to acquire so Royal Liqueur. This Liqueur is now made in two flavours the original “Coffee and Chocolate” & the new “Banana & Toffee” after a taste test the wife decided on the new as it had a sweet taste to it.
Next “The Barrel” where they make the The Barrel | Bundaberg Brewed Drinks.
Here Charmaine went into selecting arrange of drinks to stock up for our trip further north.

From here we went to the

Bundaberg Botanical Gardens & Hinkler hall of aviation. After an exhausting morning we ventured back to city central to find a pub for a late lunch.

After returning back to the park for a quick rest we got ready to head of to the Brothers Sports club with Greg & Dawn and new found friends John & Linda for dinner & Rock & Roll Band. What a day ………

Day 3
Today we laid back to catch up on some rest time and veg out….

Charmaine laid back with the girls and I helped out the boys doing stuff on the 4wd’s and a few beers.  Later in the evening I decided to get that salmon and scallops Mmmmm and cook an early dinner as the evening got cool.

Day 4
Another busy day ahead with touring around the area site seeing. We started with heading out to Bargara, then Mon Repo's Conservation Park, cut across to Burnett Heads and through to Bundaberg Port to sort out some fishing, Even tho we found a nice little place today was rather windy so thought we give it  miss. From here we headed back south to Woodgate to do some beach driving. On the way back we took the Kinkuna National Park turn off, not knowing what to expect when following the signs to the camp ground the road turned from sealed to dirt/mud (with signs saying 4wd access only). Charmaine and I looked at each other and smiled with a sign saying if in trouble use UHF channel 12....... not much further down the track we did a little playing around (with the 4wd) and headed back to the caravan park ready for happy hour.
So tomorrow Day 5 will bring a rest day and some packing up ready to move further north.

Day 6 seen us move further north to a little place called Emu Park  an east coast town of Rockhampton. Along the way we stopped at a cafe called Big Giraffe, in a town ship called Bororen where i met my new best friend Al (Alien) at this time  i was thinking to myself how far have we traveled :)
The cafe was home to a range of animals that a local had made and the food sold here was locally made as well Mmmmmm.

So onward to Emu Park - We are staying at a Bell's Caravan Park which we have stayed at before..... This township as recently been hit by the 2015 CYCLONE MARCIA. Apart from the lose of some beautiful trees the township has held up pretty well. So now its time to set up and make it in time for happy hour.
We are going to make Emu Park our base for the moment and finish off exploring some of the Capricorn Region we have yet to visit.

Some of what Emu Park has to offer is spectacular for such a little town ship, the caravan park backs onto a large local parkland and straight from that a beautififl beach (Fishermans Beach).
It is situated 22km (19min) south of Yeppoon and only 45km (35min) drive back into Rockhampton.

* Singing Ship sculpture. the majestic monument commemorates the area’s legacy of the historical explorations of Captain James Cook.
* The local Museum has a range of interesting items..
* Koorana Crocodile farm, (totally amazing creatures).
* Kepple Island, Kepple Bay Marina.
* Capricorn Caves.
* Shell World Yeppoon.
* Rockhampton Heritage Village.
* Many coastal beaches.
and more...... and over the  next few days will be exploring the rest of what Rockhampton region has to offer.

About Us

Hi, this is a little a bit about me and my wife and our gear setup.
I'm Ray aka (Walrus), and my wife Charmaine aka (Blade)
and no we will not go into her aka lol.
Charmaine and I have been together for over 30yrs and live in Brisbane, Queensland and over this time we grew from being day campers in the back of the panel van (yes panel van) haven't heard of one of those for awhile :) in our younger years to hiring cabins progressing to tents, campers (as we had children to share our adventures) etc, to now our new Jayco Outback Journey.

So now that all our kids have grown up we have decided to turn our weekends and holidays into an experience to visit parts of Queensland and NSW, and as we retire to expand further out into this lovely country of ours.

We have met and still keep in contact with a few good friends that are all ready retired and travelling, and seeing how relaxed and happy they are only makes it more exciting. So this blog will be about places we go and see so our family and friends can keep in touch.

This next piece will tell/show how we set up our 4WD/Caravan as we have recently sold our older 4WD and camper and upgraded.

4WD:

2014 Nissan Navara D40, 2.5L diesel, 140kW, 450Nm, 5 speed auto with manual mode, with 3 tonne towing capacity.

This Navara is fitted with a great dash setup and extra features:

* Full sat nav,
* Integrated blue tooth for your phone with full controls on your steering, all phone contacts downloadable to your 4wd for complete hands free.
* Bose Stereo System, which allows you to download your CD's/MP3's straight to its built-in Hard drive
- which i have also connected an extra Samsung phone which I souly use as an MP3 player using WiFi to connect to my Spotify account for all the music i want.
* Full climate control and reverse camera.
* I have fitted an extra 2 channel reverse camera system separate from the Nissan's factory one. This allows me to check the tow hitch without being in reverse while traveling and the other fitted to the rear of the caravan for reversing and checking rear traffic.
* Uniden 80 channel UHF with high and low gain antennas. (using a 1000 watt antenna switch box).
* A Phone cradle - signal booster/charger and antenna (for those weak signal areas).
* iPad/laptop cradle.(for the wife) * Uniden Safety cam.
* ARB Sahara Bar -fitted with a Warn XD9000 winch.
* 2 high beam 240 BLITZ light force spoties. (for those long dark straight roads).
* 24" combo spot/spread light bar. (for those tight dirt & sand tracks).
* 2 led reverse/work spot lights.
* Thule roof racks fitted with Thule Hullavator 897XT for the kayaks.
* A hand made switch control box to support all the extras.
* Dual battery Narva system with jumper option.
* Redarc electic brakes.* ARB Canopy, with draw system (built by me) to fit all those extras (fridge, tools, fishing gear, recovery gear).
